SCHOOL CURRICULUM and DEVELOPMENT OUTLINE

Our classroom activities are not play, but work and each work material serves an important purpose in the development of the child. The skills and concepts have been carefully selected, and the lesson plans have been carefully constructed and written to help the child to develop in all areas necessary to move forward successfully academically, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

CONCEPT and SKILL DEVELOPMENT OUTLINE

VISUAL SKILLS and CONCEPTS
Color and Shape Concept: Recognize basic colors and shapes.
Size Concept: Compares objects: big / little.
Time Concept: terms: night / day, before / after.
Volume Concept: Develops awareness of mass volume.
Age Concept: answer "how old are you?" with correct age.
Positional Concept & Orientation: terms: in / out, over / under, on / off, top / bottom, front / back.
Ordinal Concept: first / last.
Alphabetical Concept: Recognizes first names and letter within name.
Design Concept: Develops an awareness of design and detail.
Likeness and Difference Concept: Discover likenesses and differences in simple objects, basic colors, and familiar shapes.
Visual Memory Concept: Remembers several objects removed from sight.
Numerical Concept: Understands terms: sets, and many and more with respect to numbers.
Spatial Relations: Can stack stacking toys, can put an object (peg or shape) into corresponding hole (target/fit-in).

AUDITORY-ORAL SKILLS AND CONCEPTS
Likenesses and Differences: Recognizes likenesses and differences in common environmental sounds and words spoken.
Pitch: Develops and awareness in the differences in sounds of varying pitch.
Rhyming: Develops an awareness of the rhythmic pattern in many nursery rhymes, songs and poems.
Word Meanings: Expands vocabulary and understanding of words used in context, uses words in complete sentences.
Following Directions: Follows simple oral directions.
Auditory Memory: Remembers the basic thought presented in a story or discussion.

TACTILE-KINESTHETIC DISCRIMINATION SKILLS AND CONCEPTS
Textures: Identify textures: hard / soft, smooth / rough.
Weight: develops awareness that objects vary in weight.
General Discrimination: identifies foods that are sweet / sour, smells that are pleasant
fragrant / bad odor.
Emotions: Understands and uses the following terms in expressing feelings: happy / sad, angry, afraid.
Groups objects according to: size, color, and shape.

MOTOR SKILLS AND CONCEPTS
Gross Motor: can march, hop, run, crawl, jump, step sideways, step over and under object, touches head, shoulder, knees, toes on command.
Fine Motor: identifies objects by feeling shape, can complete a simple 10 piece puzzle, participates in coloring, painting and other pre-writing activities.
Visual Motor: Imitates simple body movements, Manipulates blocks of varied sizes and shapes.
Motor Discrimination: Identifies actions: marching, jumping, galloping, walking, running, hopping, climbing, understands speed concepts: fast / slow.
